Front Camera, Low Visibility, Clean Screen

Featured Replies

Hey folks

started getting this about 3 weeks ago. it's popping up pretty much every drive and is becoming an annoyance.

i'm assuming it's referring to the camera etc in front of the rearview mirror? the windshield is perfectly clear of course.

anyone else had this and fixed it?

thanks

My warning gets triggered by mist/fog, if that's relevant to your situation?

Using the heated front screen for a few minutes seems to solve the problem, when I get that message.

Yep, slight bit of dirt or mist and it will do your head in, keep clearing screen, buy new wiper blades.

Top photo is camera (that's moaning)

Lower photo is rain/light sensor

I have something similar but I have a mark on the inside of the screen. Is it possible to get to the in side and clean it?

Yes - the plastic cowl pops off-I think there's a recent thread explaining how.

I've just had this appear twice on my Fiesta .. it was a frosty morning also (so the blower on, heated windscreen etc) and the message appears saying to clean the screen but I can see my windscreen is already clean. Is there anything specific you should do to help resolve it? Not seen this appear before, not even in the thick of winter when it was much colder.

I checked the sensors themselves when I got home and couldn't see any droplets on either the bottom or the top one. The message I see is identical to the original post 🤔

Also related to this, does the top or bottom sensor affect the operation of lights for example, if the sensor has low visibility then would it also have issues properly controlling the auto headlights? i.e. headlights on even if its full daylight outside? Or its not related?

Thanks

I got this last year, it would pop up a lot and gradually got worse, until it would appear most short (3 mile journeys) I took it to garage and they replaced a sensor and the windscreen. (Done under Warranty, Just) This worked perfectly until the last few weeks it's started again. 11 months later. Warranty has run out. So not sure what to do.

mine hasn't been appearing too much this year, however i don't drive a lot during the week

i'm just living with mine as it seems to only be the colder months it happens.

hopefully they get rid of this 'feature' it later models, it's not worth the hassle

I presume the camera gets hot, you park the car, and the cold weather builds condensation around the camera - the heater element for the camera then burns it off and all is well - on my car it knows to turn the camera screen heater on whenever the car starts in cold weather

on her 57 plate "zetec climate' the door mirrors, the heated front and heated rear screen, all turn themselves on when its cold

It's mandated for type approval, so it won't be going away.

I had this message pop-up on my Ford Fiesta last week, until then I hadn't given the camera any thought.

How do you access what ever it is showing? I went through the menus but found no reference to a camera.

So what use is the camera?

It’s for traffic sign recognition, lane departure, active city stop high beam assist etc

is this a situation that's compounded when owners incorrectly turn off AC

on any car with AC turn it on, leave it on and never touch the button again - its air "conditioning" not air cooling - set the temp where you want and it manges the humidity and stops windows inside misting up

when its below 3C it will auto disable to stop the risk of the condenser freezing (and come on again above 3C), in this situation the odd weird weather can cause a little fun for a few minutes - as usually when its around 0 C the ambient air is "dry" and this means misting stops anyway...

you might have had some issues as we have no weather for 11 days - just grey sky and eventually some moisture built up below and got trapped as the grey stopped any heat turning up and with no wind the moisture hung around bored
