This country is no longer subject to European legislation after the people on their wisdom voted to remove their last line of defence against the British Government.

In my previous car, I ran an HID conversion illegally for over 5 years, no issue at all with MOT when one year I simply forgot to swap back to Victorian technology, and they passed anyway. They were brighter, great modern white colour, and lasted the whole life I had the car...

I have a healthy disregard for legislation that is stupid...

I ran an HID conversion for about 6 years on the parked up car, always presented it for test with the HID's fitted.  Friendly testers are getting harder to find though.

Is NI the same as the Republic, regarding MOT's?  By that I mean, it's a bit like tests for HGV's you can only go to designated test centres, or can you take your car anywhere for test?  Little bit off topic, my apologies.

In NI you can only get an MOT via a government run test center. It's usually pretty fair as there is no garage incentive to 'generate' faults for the sake of then charging to repair them, as they only test, they don't repair! However, Covid opened up a whole can of worms in the running of them as they stopped doing MOTs for over a year, the government simply extending the expiry date of current tests, and even now, you can wait up to 6 months to get a darn appointment. You can book your car into any MOT station in the country...

Cheers, I wasn't sure exactly how it worked. 👍 It's bloody ridiculous, how long you have to wait for a test date.

It's not all bad, the Police have agreed not to prosecute for expired MOT as long as you can show proof that a date has been booked LOL
