Heated Titanium Leathers (2009) into LX (2005) - Help with wiring up needed please

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 1.6 TDCi 2005 LX focus. GEM number ends in 4AO73-BF.

I took out the worn cloth seats and put powered, heated seats from a 2009 titanium into it. The powered part on drivers seat worked straight away.  The seats seem to have the heated seat modules installed in them. They have the wiring from the seat plugs for the heated pads. There is no wiring in the car floor side of the plugs for the heated parts.image.thumb.png.ea6b680c55327b9e1833fe2bc27ec08b.png

BELOW: Heated seat module (?) WET Automotive systems are makers of heated seat modules. This is below each seat.

I bought the heated seat switches panel off ebay. There is no wiring in the dash for the connectors for these switches. It looks like this car was not loomed up to have heated seats (unless they are really well hidden - the wires).

The wiring diagram says the switches are connected to connector C102 , and the heated seat modules are connected to C100. What for I wonder, is it just supplying power?

Does anyone know - do I have to wire it through the GEM? What does the GEM do? If its just supplying electric, perhaps I can bypass it? (the pic is not my GEM BTW, not even sure if my B GEM would have pins.)

Any help appreciated, many thanks, Matt.

Looking at the wiring schematic for the facelift cars it doesn’t control the heated seats via the GEM, it just has a couple of fused supplies.

C102 carries feed from 10A fuse into the heated seat switch. This will then vary what goes to the module depending on switch setting.
C100 takes 12V feed directly to the heated seat module this time from a 20A fuse.

These fuses most likely live in the GEM - depends if yours has feeds/terminals into those particular fuse positions and out again or if it’s only the wiring that’s missing.

If you’ve got 12V on one side of the fuses that’s a start, then try fitting the fuses and see if you get 12V on the GEM connectors (pin 5 for C102 & pin 20 on C100) or the equivalent pins for the 2005 GEM if facelift details are different.

If you’ve got supplies to the GEM connectors then in theory you can fit extra cables into the connector to give you these feeds. I’ve been fortunate to have various spare connectors that you can de-pin to give you suitable pin with some cable to fit into the connector though this can mean having to dismantle the connector to some extent first then see what pin sizes and thickness of cable needed.

Plan B there you may be able to get piggyback fuses to fit into the GEM and bring the 12V feeds out without interfering with the GEM plugs as you’ll be wiring most of this up from scratch in any case.

Will need some earths wiring up too to complete the circuits

Hope this 1- makes sense and 2-helps!

I retro fitted heated seats and had to also wire the switches. You may want to read this thread

Although this is for the Mk3.
