My battery drain seems to have been fixed - Mk3 Ford Focus - it was the Halfords battery

Featured Replies

Since June, I have been having problems with flat battery every morning.  Local Ford dealership couldn't fit us in for 2 months during which time, I had it examined by another diagnostics expert, who couldn't find anything wrong.  Eventually Ford had it in for over a week before saying, other than a non standard batter (2nd new one since June from Halfords), there was nothing wrong and no battery drain.  When I went to take it from the dealership - it had a flat battery.

They ended up taking the Halfords battery out and checking it.  When you buy a Halfords battery online, you put in your registration number and it tells you which battery you need.  It seems they were wrong.  The battery fitted was a 650am 65oh but that is not powerful enough for the various fancy bits (stop/start etc) on the Focus.  Apparently the battery needs to be set up properly too.

A Ford battery has now been fitted and we have gone a week with no problems whatsoever.  Our stop/start even works again.  It seems that sometimes, cheapest is not always the best - but I am annoyed that the Halfords website told me which battery I had to have.

What’s the difference in the spec between the Halfords battery and the battery you have now?   This info might help others. Do you know the spec of what the battery was before you put the Halfords one in there?    Your profile says car is 2018, that’s not very old for the original battery needing replacing.

So your car (2018 model) is now on it's forth battery !!!!

Those poor Dolphins 😧 The Stop/Start system will have to work 100% perfectly for the rest of the vehicles life just to stand a chance of equalizing the emissions.

I'd pay good money to watch how they "set it up properly" 🤔

Ford put the + battery post to the red cable and - to the black. Halfords did it the other way around 🤣🤣🤣

I presume he means having the battery characteristics set up in the CCC - and you will know that.

The Halfords battery was  650amp - 650h, which should have been good enough, but Vosper Ford had the car for a week and was adamant that the battery (I was told the one I needed on the Halfords website by putting the regd number in). was not the right one.  They fitted their battery on the 15th Dec 2022, and it has worked perfectly since.  Vosper Ford suggested that I contact Halfords as the battery was not fit for purpose.  I must point out though, that it was not a complaint about any Halfords branch, or their staff - it was a problem with the website.  Halfords have now refunded all of my expenses since the original Halfords battery was fitted, other than paying for the proper Ford battery.  I could not really have asked for more from them.

Bloke next door also had problems with Halfords battery. Didn't say anything as he's paying me a fiver for every time I need to give him some charge

What's the rating of the Ford battery you have ended up with?

I am sorry Stephen - I didn't see your reply.  The answer is that I don't know but I have attached a redacted copy of the invoice.  Having said all that, the problem has come back so it wasn't the Halford's battery as the Ford battery is doing it now - after 2 months.  Regards. Paul

So unless I'm very much mistaken they have fitted the exact same spec battery as the Halfords one
