2009 Ford Focus Diesel turning over but not starting

Featured Replies

Hi,

My 2009 Ford Focus Diesel started one very cold morning a few weeks back and then cut out after a few seconds.  I tried starting the car again but it was just cranking over but not even trying to fire up.

Called the AA and patrolman came out.  He advised low/no fuel pressure so possible fuel pump issue?  He tried some spray in the air intake pipe and the car seemed like it was trying to start but didn't fully.  He also tried banging the fuel tank as sometimes this can knock it back into life but no joy.

Towed it to local garage and they reckoned it was the fuel lift pump in the tank.  This has been replaced.  When I picked it up the car turned over a few times and sprang into life, normally it started straight away.  Put this down to the fuel system having been bled.  That night I drove 35 miles into Edinburgh with no issues.  Returned to car later in the evening and started it up.  It then cut out after a few seconds.  I straight away tried to start the car again and with a bit of a struggle it eventually started.  I then drove home the 35 miles with no problems.

The next morning I tried to start the car and it was cranking over but not attempting to fire up.  It's now sitting on the road waiting to be returned to the garage when it opens after the New Year.

Just wondering if anyone has suffered the same type of issue and if they managed to get it sorted?  Once it's running it seems fine with no loss of power/limp mode that i have noticed.

Any help appreciated.

Regards

Mike.
