Intermittent front fog light issue

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a 2019 Ford Galaxy, Titanium X.  It is in good condition and 30,000 miles.  When driving along at night we noticed some odd light changes at the front. Closer inspection has determined that when the headlights are on, or on auto, one or both front fog lights come on.  They do so intermittently.  So when driving you get one, then the other, then both, etc, in no particular order.   Change is every 5 or 10 seconds.   If I switch the fog lights on by their actual switch then both stay on solidly without any issue.  So in otherwords the headlights are somehow partly or fully triggering the fog lights.  So far I have taken the fog lights out, disconnected and reconnected and they are dry and I can see no issues.  If you think about it the fact that they can be switched on suggests they are not the issue.  Maybe the switch?  Or maybe there is a light control circuit that has blown or is faulty.  I can drive with the fog lights switched on but obviously not ideal, although better than random changes in my view.  Any ideas gratefully received.  Thanks, Richard

The Fog Lights on some modern cars act as Cornering Lights, so will react to the Steering Wheel being turned.

That is how they work on my Focus, and they also come on when in reverse if the Headlamps are on.

Your 2019 Galaxy is fitted with 'Cornering Lights' which means it turns on either the left or right fog light if the angle of the steering wheel is more than 5 degrees from centre. You don't have a fault, they are doing what they are programmed to do.

You can of course use the programme FORScan and change the settings to turn off the cornering lights. As it happens I personally don't like them and so have turned them off on my Focus.

Well I am very grateful for the 2 pieces of advice.  I now feel a bit daft,….. but at least I do not have a faulty car so that is a pleasing start to the new year!  Thank you both for your help, it shows there is always something new to learn and happy new year to you both.
