Need help valuing a 2004 mk1 Ford Focus.

Featured Replies

Selling my silver MK1 Ford focus 2004 flight 4 door with  24000 on the clock full service history, was brought from an elderly friend but ended up not being used much.  Impeccable interior, no rust and paint work has no problems ,one small dent on passengers side rear door (easy to fix with correct tools).  It drives like new and has and only issue it gave me was the central locking microswitch needed replacing.   I have been told that this year Ford focus with such low mileage 24,000 is quite sort after by focus enthusiasts (can be confirmed by the log book not to mention condition of car).  I have tried to value it using Auto trader and a few other tools but it is to old for most and don't trust other valuations.  If anyone had experience with this I would appreciate any advice.

Thanks in advance.

Why not?

We buy any car values it at £1040, another online retailer says £950. However I have seen a few higher milage worse condition focuses go for £2200.  Just wanted to see if anyone could give us a better idea of it's true worth.

Like houses, it's worth what an actual buyer is willing to pay for it. Sounds like you've asked them and they've told you.

Difference is due to whether you're buying or selling. Trader buys it for £1000, sells it for £2000. That's why there are no poor car dealers.

Are you happy to sell it privately yourself? If so, you'd probably get somewhere between the two values. I've always found Parkers a good guide (you may have to pay a fee in your case, due to the atypical mileage)

.. does this actually mean "advertised for £2200"?  You never know what discount the buyer may have achieved.

Stick it on eBay as an auction, with a starting price of around £900, and see where it ends up. If it doesn't get near what you think it's worth, you can always withdraw it from sale. Set it up as a ten day auction ending on a Sunday evening (that seems to generate the best price).

Take some good photographs, and describe it well, you may get a pleasant surprise.

The mileage is good and the condition, but being a Flight, it's a base model and that's what will make it less desirable.

Alan's suggestion is the best to follow

I would agree that eBay is always a good indicator of 'real' car values. By that I mean what the general public are prepared to pay for vehicles.
