Transmission Limited Function See Manual

Featured Replies

Hi All

I randomly got this message on the dash a few days ago.  After checking odb2 codes I got the screenshot attached which doesn't mean a whole lot to me.

The message only appears when I press the AC button.  The AC works as normal and the car drives as normal with no visible or physical indication that there is a problem with the car other then the message on the dash.

Does anyone have any clue what it could be?

Ford SMax 2017 2.0 Diesel automatic.

Thank you

Sounds like the selector switch is going down, or the selector switch in the gearbox

Try reading codes, whilst the fault is live, using FORScan

A full reset may cure it, or your battery is about to die

The car has never failed to start but it did struggle a few days ago.  Could a dieing battery cause random issues like this?

General low voltage can and does cause all sorts of odd faults and warnings.

Get a multimeter and measure the voltage at the battery terminals 1 hour after you have parked.

12.06v showing on multimeter

I haven't had chance to check with forscan yet.

Then you either need to give the battery a very good charge for at least 12 hours, OR, you need a new battery.

Hello - did you solve this issue, as I am experiencing the same thing?

I did manage to sort the issue.

The initial problem although scary didn't actually cause me any issues.  When I pressed the AC button or if the AC was left on when I started the car it gave me the transmission limited function message.  It stopped the flappy paddles working for manual gear changes which I don't use, they worked if I turned the AC off which was just bizarre.

I also started experiencing issues with my front and rear parking sensors which I do use and so on recommendation from this forum I did replace the battery.  The issue still persistent for a week or so afterwards then just decided to disappear.

I don't know much about cars and so maybe the battery change did fix the issue but just not straight away.

I've gone a full year without the message reappearing.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
