1.6 ecoboost coolant loss

Featured Replies

I took my 2012 focus 1.6 ecoboost in to my mates garage a couple of days ago as it lost a header tank of coolant. He has had it pressurised overnight and said he can find no external leaks, I've also noticed white smoke out of the exhaust which my mate said means it is probably the common issue of coolant getting in to the cylinders and burning off, the idle isn't silky smooth either it is a little lumpy.

I'm just after some advice really as I'm not sure what to do now, do I keep driving until it dies or do I get it repaired and if so is there an updated engine block available that doesn't have the inherent problem?

The car has only done 48k miles and is lovely to drive, we don't really want to sell it as we like it so much.

Would ARP head studs and an Athena MLS headgasket solve the issue?

Put some 'Radweld' in the coolant tank and it should live to fight another day 👍

Head gasket I'm afraid, common as muck on these.

Duh, duh, duddle, duh dot com?

Or K-Seal.

Is that why the head got redesigned later on? Is it possible to fit the redesign head on to the earlier block?

I don't want to bodge it with k seal and clog the coolant passages I want a proper fix so I can keep the car as it is low mileage, very good condition and had the cambelt done less than a year ago.

Have you tried contacting Ford customer relations for advice?  I think they are paying for most repairs on this engine if a coolant related failure even on vehicles this old.

Nope, I didn't even know that was a thing, I'll try contacting them in Monday, thanks for the info 🙂
