Transmission fill plug

Featured Replies

Hello I am currently in the process of filling up my transmission fluid on my 2016 1.0 ecoboost and can’t seem to locate the fill plug only the drain plug. I have been told there is now only one plug or have i been told wrong . I have circled in white the plug to which I believe is the drain plug but I may be wrong. if any else has an idea if there is only one plug or where to find the fill plug. Thanks for any information

That looks to high up on the gearbox to be a drain plug.

My thoughts also after looking at it again but I can’t find another plug so I kind of believe that there’s only one for both but that doesn’t make sense at the same time.

There are NO drain plugs fitted on the gearbox.

The filler / level check plug is accessible via the front nearside wheel well. Remove the wheel and the plastic liner.

The guy who will be able to confirm this or tell me I'm wrong is @DaveT70

This is how I’ve accessed what I think is thr fill plug, however I’ve seen a few videos that the fill plug is accessed from behind the wheel not in front like I have 3750CAC6-A1EC-499D-A131-FF0F4F60F793.thumb.jpeg.27234d61788203fb24facf2f2b338f56.jpeg9F7F2740-A94F-4775-90AF-B661082CDF15.thumb.jpeg.c38d49414578bd513b17c1c45d851aca.jpeg

I'm not to sure on manuals, I'm afraid.

The main one to find is the level check plug, which looks like the one in the first OP picture.

If there is no drain plug, you can suck out the fluid from the level check plug and refill from there.

Make sure transmission is warm before you suck it out, it'll be easier

Having just checked the gearbox parts list, I must CORRECT myself !!!! 😧

I was wrong to say that there was no drain plug on your gearbox. There is indeed a drain plug which is the one in your photo.

Did it happen to show you the fill plug too? If the one in my picture is the drain plug, I still can’t seem to find the fill 😂

To correct the correction...

That is the fill plug.  (Might be used as a drain plug elsewhere, and named as such on parts list).

These 'boxes are sealed for life.  There is no oil change interval, and no drain plug.  If any oil is lost during repairs (driveshaft etc), it's just topped back up to the fill plug.

I should have stuck with my original statement 🤣

It was only this morning when I looked on a parts list and seen it named as a drain plug that I thought I must have been wrong.
