    EML can only be on if a DTC code has set it to on.

    If you are using a generic code reader then it will not be reading all (if any) of the Ford Specific DTC's.

    Use FORScan and a good connecting cable like the vLinker FS (Amazon £30) and then you will be able to get the Ford trouble code.
