2017 sync 3, carplay AND android auto?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I'm struggling to find a sensible answer on any of fords documentation, should Sync 3 from 2017 support carplay and android auto?

I'm looking at a 2017 st line focus and the dealer is adamant it's carplay only, but from what I can see online, it should support both and depend on what handset is plugged in, can anyone confirm? 🙂

Thanks in advance!

Yes as far as I know they do both on Sync 3.

Think the carplay doesn't require the phone to be plugged in , if it's android youll need a device called as wireless and the app to connect wirelessly

Thanks both, ended up not going ahead with it for other reasons before i even got the chance to plug my phone in anyway :)

If it's Sync 3 it supports both but plug in only

To confirm the Android Auto, since they have removed it from working on mobiles (worst mistake ever), you can only use it on the car's system, and the phone has to be plugged directly into the car's USB ports before it will come up on the car's screen, so you need the App on the phone, but it will only display on the car's screen when plugged into the USB ports, it won't connect wirelessly.

Sync 2 has Apple Siri support via Bluetooth Connection but only for version 3.10.

Sync 3 has capability for Android and Apple CarPlay cable only. Please ensure Sync is updated to the latest version where possible.

Sync 4 has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto the above for cable and wireless.
