Ford Focus brake pads

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

We have a Focus MK4 St-Line X Estate Diesel, and have been told we should replace the brake pads in the next few months.  I was getting ready to pull the trigger on some cheap ones, but I have read that the cheaper ones can affect performance (less responsive, with the need to press harder on the pedal for example of the same level of braking), as well as noise and longevity.  Does anyone with more experience have any advice?  I've previously had older cars and always went for the cheap ones when they needed replacing, but the brakes on this car are rather nice and I wouldn't want to ruin them etc.

Many thanks

Dale

Have you checked the pads. Ford dealer told me mine urgently needed replacing at 22,000 miles and really tried hard to persuade me. I knew it was a lie as I checked them before I took it in. At 50,000 miles the pads still had a fair bit on them.  Do not take anyones word for it.  Only replace if you have verified with your own eyes.

Absolutely.

Brembo pads are good

Thank you for the replies.  Isetta, I can understand your concern, I've certainly had that before where I have been lied to but I have checked these and they are very low.

Thank you Dave, I have gone for the Brembos as they were one of the brands I was looking at, I appreciate the recommendation.

Are you now changing the pads yourself then? Mine will need doing in a few months. Does anyone know the required torque for the brake calliper bolts for a mk3 or does anyone know where I can find this information?

Of all the areas to cut price on your car, brakes aren't one of them...
