Hi I did purchase the ch340 cable downloaded forscan purchased a new laptop battery but when I connected to the car I could not get any internet connection, thats how it stands at the moment

No need for an internet connection in the car.

Is the laptop able to 'see' the cable?  If not, drivers may need to be downloaded.

I'm not familiar with the ch340 cable but it a known issue that many cables will not communicate either properly or fully with the car and FORScan. The only two cables that are known to work fully are those I posted the links above to.

The ELM327(modified) from tunnelrat electronics was the only cable of that type that was known to always work. Others may work but their reliability is unknown.

Generic handheld code readers are almost certainly not going to read all of the Ford specific DTC's. Even very expensive generic DTC readers often fail to get the Ford specific codes.

Usually there's a link to drivers on the site where you bought the cable.

I'm not familiar with this particular cable but a quick Google has given me this for CH340.
