Rattling noise on idle!

Featured Replies

Hey guys just wondering if anyone has had this happen or knows what it could be?

Just recently my car has started making a loud rattling noise coming from under the bonnet. (Ford Focus MK4 with 28k miles)

Whenever I put my foot on the clutch the noise stops and starts again when I release the clutch.

Information on the type/size of engine would help.

Just had this problem myself on 25k miles, new clutch release bearing was needed and a new gear box due to worn bearings. There was a kind of rattling metal noise and with the clutch fully pressed the noise went away.

Any explanation as to why the gearbox was worn out on a 3 year old car with 25k on the clock? I have a 16 year old MX5 with 114k and its original clutch and gearbox, in the past I've run Vauxhalls and Skodas over 100k including towing a caravan, kept them all for 5 or 7 years and have never had such a problem. Now I am very worried re the MOST expensive car I have ever bought looks like its not going to be a keeper !!!

Apologies it is a 1.0 ecoboost 125 engine

I have been told my car has a single mass flywheel and not a dmf and just needs the clutch replacing - can anyone confirm whether that’s correct regarding the flywheel?
