Battery drain

Featured Replies

Been trying to track down a battery drain on our Focus, close to 2A which seems a lot to me?

I started by removing F3 from the engine fuse box to isolate the in car fuse box, this dropped the drain to about 1.5A, I then went through all the live fuses one by one and with the exception of F6 for the glow plugs which reduced it by about 0.3A all the rest were good.

Next I moved to the interior fuse box, identified all the live fuses then checked them one by one, the only one that made any difference was F107 which reduced it by about 0.4A this is instrument cluster and diagnostics.

Any suggestions as to where else I could try, is there an easy way to isolate the alternator in case a diode has gone bad?

Got another problem now, after disconnecting the battery while chasing down this fault I now need the pin code to get the radio etc back on line!

Thanks

Any suspects for my current drain, OK if used every day but a few days of rest and not enough in the battery for a start.

Is it keyless entry?  I know most of the last Mk2.5s were.  It's not a great system on those though, uses constant power 'searching' for keys and seems to drain the battery more quickly then newer keyless entry cars.

I suppose iit is, fob locks and unlocks with flip out key for ignition and bonnet lock. Is its supply fused? any idea which one if it is?

Thanks

Graham

Keyless entry doesn't need the fob button pressing. The car can be drawing current for half an hour after shutdown so put the lead in line and wait until is has fully shut down. At this time of year, batteries take a spanking. It may be that it needs a deep charge.

Keyless entry doesn't require a fob button press.  If you don't have a square button on the external door handle, it's not keyless entry.

But you don't have a Mk 2.5 Focus!😀

Fair point Eric! It is one of the better convenience features of the car.
