2006 focus, had servo and master cylinder replaced last week car still in garage as still has a soft pedal as if air is still present no leaks or breaks in hoses. Any advice

Air in the ABS pump.  Would try a bleeding procedure using a diagnostic tool to cycle the pump.  Independent garage may not have the tools for this.

Thanks, I'll have a word with them next week

You just beat me to it 🤣

I was just going to say the ABS system can be serviced using FORScan

Update,

Car still in garage,Had to get a genuine Ford master cylinder today on the grounds that the bore is 23.8 and the master they put in had a bore of 28.8.

No aftermarket ones available local to me, otherwise been told its the abs pump itself which I think is highly unlikely as no warning lights have appeared on the dash

The MC size does make a difference to pedal travel.  Hopefully that'll cure the problem.  I take it you're not being charged again for them fitting the wrong one?

If a master cylinder is fitted with a bigger bore wouldn’t the pedal go down less far? As it’s pushing a larger volume of fluid. So I’m not overly sure that will rectify it

So new genuine mc fitted still slightly traveling said they had pressure bleed but no change, garage now looking at abs pump reckon could be an internal leak, refused to pay dealer price on the bases of could be so 2nd hand one being reprogrammed keeping the original and getting it reconditioned, no codes on diagnostic reader and no abs light on dash other than the normal on engine start up which goes out.

At my wits end and starting to think sell car for spares or straight scrap or let them do it and wait for the out come end of this week.

When pumping brake goes hard as should then under the foot goes to below accelerator peddle re pump goes hard again then under foot pressure goes down to almost level with accelerator peddle

Have they bled it using a diagnostic procedure?  'Pressure bleed' sounds like they're just using the old school method.

So after nearly a month car is back on the road and the issue was ABS pump  2nd hand 1 reprogrammed and all sorted

Please let us know about the programming of the abs unit .  Who / how? I don’t have a problem with mine but this could be useful info to have on here for when others need it.

Managed to track down a 2nd hand pump, could have sent mine away for recon but after spending so much to get to this point I chanced it, most garages can do the reprogramming of the modulator via a scanner was all I was told (think they were glad they didn't have to deal with me again)

The garage did say that abs pump failure is so rare, after talking to afew mechanics over the past week 1 said they had the issue only once

Please correct if I've been told wrong? I can only go by what I was told.

I'm just glad have mine back on the road

I'm not doubting what you have been told, as garages often don't tell the whole story.

The ABS pump module is classified as safety equipment for very obvious reasons. As such all of the usual programming software like FORScan are unable to programme the ABS units. To my knowledge only official main Ford dealers and two approved/certified ABS pump repairers in the UK have the means to set up the ABS pump.

There are a few cases on the forum where people have apparently been able to get a replacement unit from an identical car which have worked. However, in nearly all cases the easiest option is to get your own ABS pump serviced, since valve and mechanical repair of the unit does not effect the programming.
