Tourneo Custom clutch advice

Featured Replies

Hey all,

First post in the forum and hoping for some advice. I've got a 2014 Tourneo Custom with a dodgy clutch. My garage has quoted a grand to replace like for like but I read online a while back there might be a conversion kit to the cheaper clutch on these. I can't remember the name of the clutch on mine, but it's the more expensive one (dual something maybe??). I can't for the life of me find this information again online and was hoping someone here might help.

I don't really have a grand lying about at the moment so if there is a way to save a few quid I'm all ears!

dual mass flywheel

That's the kiddy. Do you know if there is a conversion kit?

Dual mass to single mass flywheel conversion.

However, the DMF is there to absorb engine vibrations.  Changing to an SMF is cheaper, but it will make the engine rattle more, make the cabin vibrate more, and all the excess vibration is likely to wreck the gearbox eventually.

I dont no but iam sure someone on here will 👍

Was just reading this (https://www.torquecars.com/tuning/dmf-solid-flywheel.php) that basically said the same.

I don't know if these are applicable https://www.valeoservice.co.uk/en-uk/passenger-car/transmission-systems/kit4ptm-conversion-kit-intensive-usage.

Solid mass looks like it'll be about 200 quid for the part whereas the DMF is 500. I guess the other 500 quoted is for labour from my garage if those figures are right.

What aspect of your clutch was dodgy? Does it really need new flywheel?  Due to labour if it goes later on it might be false economy, but is the dmf actually worn out right now?

I'm not sure. Just going off the garage's advice.
