MK3 Head Gasket

Featured Replies

Evening all.

I'm convinced my head gasket is failing. Slightly sweet smell coming from somewhere.. but no visible mixing in coolant or oil. No rough Idle, no power loss, but expansion tank has dropped from midway to minimum in the past month.

Have been to dealership several times recently, always been given the all clear with pressure tests and heater core checks, told smell isn't coolant (it ***** is!)

Heading to another garage soon. Is Ford now liable here to front any of the cost of the repair, considering mk3 EcoBoost gaskets are a well ***** known issue?

Cheers

If it helps with something to check, I was in a similar situation recently. Not resolved yet, but I believe I've tracked my leak down to the 'heater water hose', the one that runs to the heater matrix, but inside the engine bay as it goes through the firewall. I'm guessing the seal is slowly leaking and it was dripping down the fabric covering the firewall there.

Not sure whether the "heater core check" you mentioned would have covered that though.

Yeah I've checked the pipes inside the lining of the car on mine a few times expecting the cold to break something, no visible leaks or damp, nothing telling around engine bay that I can see. There was a crack on the top of coolant tank, that's been replaced and all checked over again (and again) by Ford saying all is okay.. but here I am stuck with coolant being consumed still, it must be sifting through the gasket and supplying the smell to the exhaust, unless my anxiety about it is just tricking me at this point

1.0 or 1.6?
