Cambelt Change

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2011 Focus, 1.6 petrol, 98 bhp.

Just bought the car, limited service history and cannot confirm if the cambelt has ever been changed, so looking to get it done.

Just asking if this is a particularly difficult job. Called a couple of garages I have used before, they were unable to confirm a price and told me it would be about 2 months before they could book it in, another has not come back to me and even Click Mechanic who did my last cambelt, the mechanic did a good job and the price was fair, but he is the mechanic who had my responded to me this time, cannot give me a price. The website says to send in for a quote, again, no response.

I'm wondering if it's a difficult job that people don't want to touch, but looking online, it does not seem to bad for a mechanic.

Just checking before I try a few more garages tomorrow.

Thanks

Martin

It's not really difficult but can be an awkward job.  The 1.6 diesel is easier.

2011 could be either Mk2 or Mk3 which may be confusing the garages computer systems.  Being 98bhp I think that'll be a Mk2 without Ti-VCT?

Thanks for the reply, it's a MK2.

I'm just surprised it's been so difficult to book it in, I thought somebody would want the job.

Without knowing it's been done, it's just a bit of a worry. I had a 2008 Fiesta 1.25 before this, I had the cambelt done, all booked and done within the week, simple, this time it's been a struggle.

I will ring a few more garages tomorrow.

There are many "Cambelt" centres who specialise in just changing belts (and water pumps). I'd expect you would get it booked in to one of those places quite quickly. Price will be around £300

Cheers, I will be trying again tomrorow, I have had quotes for £500 and £400 so far, but not managed to find anybody to do the work.

I'm tempted to offer to do it for you myself, if you wanted a trip down to shropshire, so long as it's not a Ti-VCT model as I'm missing the extra tool needed for that (though it's not hugely expensive).

Hi

Many thanks for the offer but I'm in Blackpool, so it's a little far 😉 to risk it, knowing my luck it would snap on arrival.

Martin

No worries. 🙃
