Ford Focus 56 plate Start Up Issues

Featured Replies

Hi 👋🏻

Apologies in advance, I’m not clued up on cars so apologies for any errors in terminology!

have an issue with my 56 plate EcoBoost focus. It has been a bit temperamental when driving, slight lag etc when changing gear almost feels like a downshift at times. Problem now is the car struggles to start and engine cuts out when stop/start is activated then it struggles to start again, caused a few issues at lights ha ha.

I’ve charged the battery but this doesn’t seem to help. Took about 50 tries this morning and then just starts as normal on last try!!

the car was hit when parked just before Christmas over left passenger wheel arch but damage was minimal just a dented wheel arch and had it’s MOT in Dec.

could it be starter motor/fuel pump etc?

I’ve opened bonnet this morning and noticed a cable not attached, I’m no mechanic but surely should be attached if not defunct, looks like it has oil on the cable aswell (see pic)

hoping for some advice before I take car to garage

thanks in advance

Adam

First point. When connecting a battery booster pack, or jump starting the vehicle the negative lead should be connected to the vehicle chassis point. Same as if you charge the battery, the charger negative must be connected to the chassis earth point, NOT the battery negative terminal.

Second that is not a cable it's a pipe. See photos below.

Thank you sooo much!!
move just attached that pipe and the car started first time every time for about 10 tries!!!

out of curiosity what was the pipe that was disconnected? As this seems to have caused the issue

again thank you so much!

And for future reference, it'll be a 65 plate.  56 plate was 2006, EcoBoost wasn't available then.

Hi, sorry my mistake was in a rush making post with my three little ones going crazy as I couldn’t take them to their clubs etc ha ha
