Engine malfunction error, the code is P02E9

Featured Replies

Good evening all, the "Engine malfunction message" just popped up on my dash, no engine light, just the big message on the display.

I plugged in the code reader and Forscan gives me:

    P02E9:00-25

Diesel Intake Air Flow A Position Sensor Circuit High

The car was driving nicely, so was even more surprised. Its a 2009 2L Diesel Duratorq at about 110k miles. Surprised to not be able to find much detail of this code for the S-Max so not sure which sensors I should start to change in order to clear it?

If anyone has had this code, or has any suggestions i'd be very grateful! ....otherwise I'm going to start by swapping the Throttle body!?

Many thanks in advance

So the new MAP Sensor arrived today (the one on top of the throttle body), so have just installed it, wires were visually OK, but sadly no change. Forscan still can't clear the error!

Any ideas? Not sure what to try next...

That code is also associated with the throttle body.

@jimbob2k i also have a similar problem with my for smax titanium 2009 diesel 2 litre engine. I have changed the air maf sensor twice but still the engine mulfunction light comes on and my smax has lost power to around 70%. Did you manage to resolve the issue with your Ford smax? Thank you.

Jimbob2k hasn’t been back since 15th Feb, if the eml is on there will be a dtc which ideally you need to read with FORScan otherwise you are totally guessing.

I have a 2015 2.0 tdci with same problem. Had an issue with air mass sensor previously, Ford said change it after £180 diagnostic. Replaced it didn’t clear then told map sensor replaced that air filter and all intake pipework incase of splits . Still fault present ended up stripping throttle and body out to check egr failure. Egr was fine but found carbon build up on throttle, throttle body and manifold. Cleaned them all air mass sensor fault has now gone but have the p02e9. Some said it might be because I cleaned the throttle and moved the throttle plate by hand. Any ideas would be much appreciated

The dealer did lots of guessing at your expense!
As I understand it (subject to correction) the throttle body has a position sensor that would need to be relearned if it has been removed, moved and refitted.
For our S-MAX, there are multiple Reset operations (also for EGR, MAF etc) in Forscan, including "Reset Intake Air Throttle Valve Learned Values"
