rear washer not working

Featured Replies

hi there peeps - rear washer not working but front is. i've take brake light bit off and no water coming out of pipe so i'm sure someone knows what's wrong on here, tia

None return valve in the pump is probably faulty.

Hi Steve

Does it have it's own fuse.  I had same symptoms (no water or pump motor sound) on Kuga and found the fuse had blown - could be work a quick check before going further.  Luckily my fuse-box had a spare fuse in an unused slot !!!

There is only one pump. The OP says the front is working.

As Unofix says it is most likely the non-return valve failed. It does happen but is easy to replace or substitute with a straight-through connector. You should find it about 6" back from the rear nozzle.

I had this exact same issue on my recently purchased MK3 focus and I fixed it by doing as @Paulius55  recommends above and by using a straight through connector instead of the faulty non return valve hope it helps

From the other thread......"Hi John the little valve is part of the screen wash pump."

It could be THIS valve that is faulty and the one at the rear is OK.  I believe I read somewhere that not all years/models have this additional NRV at the rear, so don't automatically assume that you're going mad if you can't find it where mentioned.

I have the same issue on my 2016 Focus. Had it for 2 years and now rear washer not working. I can hear the pump working when activating rear washer. Took off the rear brake light and checked but couldn't find any blockage. Anyone help?

You need to trace back along the pipe to the nozzle to find the non-return valve. It is normally about 6" back and can be accessed either the brake light or by removing the inside panel.

Thanks for all your replies. I replaced the pump today because the front washers stopped working as well, and i couldn't hear it 'whirring' so the front ones work now but the rear washer is still not working - i am at a loss and somewhat disappointed it didn't solve it -any ideas anybody tia

Still probably the non-return valve at the back

Thanks again to Paulius55 - where might i find this valve - i can't see anything within the boot - i've taken off the inside trim of the boot and the nozzle

It should be about 6" back from the nozzle in the tube. Mine was covered with a foam wrap. However, that was in my S-Max, I cannot say for sure that it is the same for the Focus. Having said that, I see that wenglish, about 7 posts up has done it in his Focus so it is probably the same. If you can't find it I may be able to help in a few weeks as we come up to Notts. on a monthly basis (Nuthall) to carry out grandparent duties.

Had the same issue. Do you know how far up th car the water gets to. There might be a section of hise at the rear that is attached to the light about 4 inches. There is a non return valve there. This is where mine got to. Replaced the valve and fixed the issues.

The problem I did have is the hose under the footwell had popped off and the foot well was getting wet also. The pressure of trying to use the washer had popped the hose off.
