Popping Noise From Exhaust??

Featured Replies

When my car is just idling and I "blip" the throttle, as the revs come down there is a slight popping/burbling noise from the exhaust. Is this anything to worry about??

In my experiance of fiestas nothing to worry about.

If it starts backfiring thats when you ought to worry

Jamie

Could be the start of a misfire. My MK4 1.25 Fiesta has a misfire, as when it's idling the exhaust consistantly burbles and the engine knocks. But it does have over 30,000 on the spark plugs so that's to be expected.

Go and buy a new set of plugs they are well past there best.

Popping from the exhaust is normal for mk6's and mk7's

Jamie

popping exhaust is normal on the mk6 and mk7 fiestas, exhaust sound is quite nice though, really nice, deep sound ;)

Glad it's nothing to be concerned about. I've noticiced if for a while but never gave it much thought, read after a quick "google", about timing issues, exhaust leaks etc. causing a popping sound. Good to know I can leave it, sounds good when waiting in traffic (:

is it a standard exhaust or aftermarket? as a de cat?

The standard exhaust 'box has a drilled hole, to allow drainage of acidic liquid, and on the overrun, this often creates a bobbling noise. Just learn to enjoy it, --- it is a sign of a well running engine!

My old m6 had an exhaust burble ( 1.4 zetec ) nothing came up in the service or mot so id say nothing was wrong, pretty sure its to do with the zetec design
