Replacing the horn on a mk1 Focus

Featured Replies

I have a 2003 Focus, and noticed recently that the horn had stopped working. When I press the button I can hear a click, so I assume the relay is working, and I checked the fuse which also seems to be fine, so I figure the problem is with the horn itself.

The only problem is I can't work out where the horn is! The manual offers little help, and I found a very old thread on another forum and it seemed to suggest it was on the right side near the radiator, but this definitely isn't the case on my car.

So, where is the horn? I'm hoping it's somewhere accessible so I can replace it easily. Thanks for any help!

Looking at the front of the car check right at the bottom corner of the radiator on the passenger side.

This is my Mk2 on replacement horn, I doubt if the location was vastly different to a Mk1...

Thanks to everyone for the help. Sadly looks pretty much impossible to replace at home without some way of lifting the car, so I guess I'll have to pay to have it done.

Have a very close look! I managed to replace mine by just removing the top slam cover panel, and reaching down, no need to lift car at all...

Just park the car with the passenger side up on the kerb (find a nice 6" high one). That will give you more than enough room to reach under and change the horn. After all there is only 1 small 10mm bolt and a plug to undo.

Thanks to everyone for the help! Managed to get under the car and find the horn. Thankfully it didn't even need replacing, just a loose wire!

I was just going to say Be a devil and go for a Ring Twin Tone Airhorn , I had one in my Mk2 , I absolutely loved it . It had an 'air of don't gimme no crap' ! 🤣 Access to it was by the slam cover panel as per StephenFord's suggestion .

I found though that as it aged 6years+ or so the compressor needed lubrication of WD40 every couple of months

The OP needs a real mans horn https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2499334.m570.l1313&_nkw=281237829530&_sacat=184805

He'd need a bonnet bulge/cut-out/some serious louvres for that one or a roof box , the possibilities are endless ! 😄
