Focus MK2 Facelift Rear Electric Windows and Tint

Featured Replies

Hi All, I have a hatchback and want to spend some time giving it some well deserved upgrades. The one I have wanted for so long is to fit rear electric windows and the tinted rear windows to my car.

Is this easy to do? What do I need to look out for ie will the wiring be in the doors? and is it a simple remove the manual winders and fit the elec version? Is there any guides anywhere?

No !

To be honest I don't have all the information on your model but if it follows the normal Ford way of doing things it will be a nightmare.

Cars with only front electric windows have the operation controlled by the Body Control Module (BCM). Those vehicles that both front and rear electric windows use a different system. Each of the front doors has a Door Control Module (PDM and DDM). These modules control the windows for the front and rear doors, they also control the door locking for both front and rear doors. The two systems are not interchangeable.

I'm not saying that it can't be done, only that I've not come across anyone who has been able to.

As to tinting the windows, most cars nowadays are built with the windows tinted to the maximum legal limit, so it would be illegal to fit tints to the windscreen or side windows alongside the driver.

If you do tint the windows alongside the driver, or the windscreen, expect to get stopped by the police, and a fixed penalty, probably with points on your licence. Also, in the event of an accident, there could be implications with your insurance.

You are able to tint the windows behind the driver, as that is no different to having a van.

To be fair the OP only said he wanted to do the rears.

If you want to add rear electric windows and rear tints, see if you can find a Titanium or 5dr ST with factory privacy glass.  That way you can just swap the glass over instead of having to add tint film.  Same with the tailgate, if you can find one with factory privacy glass, it's far better than tint film.  (I've had a few of both so can compare!)
