Focus Battery With Magical Ability ?

Featured Replies

G'evenin all , I'm hoping that somebody can offer me some direction on an erratic battery

Last Thursday the car was completely lifeless on turning the key to start other than an ongoing onscreen 'Tyre Sensors Not Detected' message on the dash when the ignition lights are on .

The battery showed 12v on a test meter . I pumped the clutch a few times , turned the key/pressed the clutch and like magic the engine fired up .

Headed for the garage as I'd booked the car in at my local FORD main dealer for new tyre sensors for that day . On my way to the garage I stopped to stash some bottles n cans in recycling banks and left the engine running . I got out and then the Stop/Start kicked in , got back in the car and it started up as if nothing happened .

Got to the garage on time and described the electrical issue to them as concisely/detailed as possible .

An hour or so later they blamed the erratic starting issue on the battery , I don't think that they have fully investigated the problem . Since my trip to the garage on Thursday the Stop/Start feature has even made a few 'guest appearances again and the car is starting/running as it should but I'm just plain ol confused dot com as I've got a strange feeling that it's not just as simple as a flat battery (with magical abilities to restart) and that the car is going to let me down again somewhere .

Has anyone here had this strange battery 'misbehaviour' , your assistance be appreciated .

There is nothing 'strange' about the misbehaviour of the battery, there are lots of similar threads on here. In fact it's almost normal these days 🤣

When you next measure the battery voltage with a meter do it after it has been parked for at least 1 hour. You need to be very accurate (not approx 12 volt...ish). Look at the table below to check your State Of Charge.

Hi Unofix and cheers for your informed reply . I hear you what you're saying but what I don't get is that I can turn the key and likely a few times and the car's seemingly dead to the world but and I'm guessing here that on pumping the clutch it somehow has a bearing on whether or not the car starts . Feels like there's a switch somewhere (on the clutch ?) on it's last legs .

Did they not go into any further detail regarding what the problem was with the battery. The scenario you've described seems to me like something as simple as a loose battery terminal or bad earth. Maybe they just tightened a few things up.

Edit: If your car is one where you have to press the clutch to start it then that switch could possibly be a candidate.

Nope , they didn't mention any other possible causes .
