Latest iOS update SYNC confusion….

Featured Replies

Something not right about this! Though may well be a simple explanation.

I always get the latest iOS updates , while I can , my iPhone 7 should be good for another year or 2.. latest was iOS 15.7.3

Been plugging in for CarPlay last little while , used sync today .. it’s now calling my iPhone ….. ‘iPhone (2)’

I removed it then paired it again , it went straight back to iPhone (2) . Was kinda expecting 2 different phone numbers . Also it’s saying my iPhone is an iPhone 9 and with 02 UK. I’m with giffgaff.. and it’s a 7… wtf 🤔

I hate to say this but with Apple dropping iPhone 6S and 7 with the launch of iOS 16, these critical security updates to iOS 15 are a bit “hit and miss”.

These updates do patch vulnerabilities, but they are then also very low priority when it comes to fixing any issues caused  by these updates. All you can do is hope that Apple get enough feedback to warrant a fix to iOS 15, but it’s likely the official line will be to update to a device that supports iOS 16.

iphone 9,3 is the code name given by apple for iPhone 7. It doesn’t mean iphone 9

Sync is reporting O2 because Giff Gaff is running on O2.

giffgaff is a MVNO running on the O2 network. on Sync, It can sometimes display the actually MNO network name from the coding and not your SIM card name.

MVNO are mobile virtual network operators
MNO are Mobile Network Operators.

We currently have 4 MNO in the U.K.  every other Operator are virtual running on one of the main operators

vodafone is 234-15
Three is 234-20
EE is 234-30

giffgaff like Tescos are all running on the O2 network using there code 234-10

If the car is reading iPhone (2) then this is the name of the device its give. It self, or that multiple iPhones have been connected.

first check the device it self.

Settings> General > About

just check the name you want to display is correct there.

if the name is IPhone (2), then this is why Sync will display.

if it’s not, then you will need to check in phone settings on Sync that all the devices are removed. Rename your iPhone to something different and try again.

hope this helps.

Thanks Daz , I’ve simply deleted the (2) in ‘about’ .
I’ve not even had a passenger in weeks so no one should have had an opportunity to connect to it.
Thanks for the detailed reply, much appreciated. I’m thinking it’s likely something to do with me plugging in for CarPlay, it’s the only change I’ve made.

It’s possible. But normally it’s when you have moved from one device to another in apple that gives it a number 2.

never know Ford sync do it, but then anything is possible.
glad u got it sorted tho 👍
