Do we have any gardners on here?

Featured Replies

My 85 year old mum loves tending her garden, despite a recent stroke. However, she has forgotten the name of this plant, she thinks it begins with an 'L', but maybe not. Anyone here know what it is?

Is that not just a generic term for 'shrub/bush'? Not that I know anything LOL

Nope.  But there are quite a few different types within that species.  I don't know the exact name for that one unfortunately.

It would seem Tom is correct, it is some kind of Hebe, but there are hundreds of types from what I can see. I'm not a gardener, (my late Mam would have known).

Here is a couple of similar Hebe to yours:-

Seeing your photos gave me an idea! I did a google image search, and came up with,

"HEBE 'ELLIPTICA',,..which sounds like it could be it. I'll run it past her and see if it rings a bell! Thanks guys...

As I say to my customers we don’t speak Latin in the uk call it by familiar names. 7 years training and I stopped speaking Latin within a month as most folk looked at me like I was a complete idiot. 20 years down the line I don’t even call them by familiar names I just know how to look after them. Very much like my vans. The mk5 is the Goddess the mk8 is the white elephant.
