'06 Focus 1.8 TDCi - Engine managemet light and power loss

Featured Replies

Hi. My '06 Focus 1.8 TDCi has developed some power issues. It has now stopped 3 times, and needs a wait of between 5 - 10 minutes before it will start again. I took it to a garage, hoping they would run diagnostics, but they couldn't find anything (I don't believe they ever did full diagnostic) Pre ignition, the normal battery, oil and handbrake lights are the only ones that don't extinguish. Post ignition the engine management light now comes on, and once the cog with the exclamation mark stayed on. Is this the powertrain sensor ?? It's not been on all the time. The internet is awash with so much rubbish, so I need to get experienced opinions before I take it somewhere and have them charge a fortune for new parts when it could be a sensor. You get my drift. Looking for advice - Thanks in advance

Rob

That is actually good news.

All you need is a laptop and an ELM327(modified) lead and you will be able to read the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

Most garages just use generic code readers and they will not read the Ford specific DTC's.

Download the software FORScan (free for windows laptops): https://forscan.org/download.html

Connecting cable (£20) - ELM327(modified) : https://tunnelrat-electronics.fwscart.com/USB_Modified_with_switch_ELM327/p4541936_17045457.aspx

OR for £34 you can get the new automatic cable - vLinker FS : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vgate-vLinker-Adapter-FORScan-MS-CAN/dp/B0952P4MLP/ref=asc_df_B0952P4MLP/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=534732308385&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=10134168984605087184&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006688&hvtargid=pla-1430824679036&psc=1

Thanks,

I have downloaded software and ordered a link cable. I watched some vids on Forscan, so when it comes, I'll give this a go, and hope it reveals something
