Bank Sensor 2 issue fixed itself?

Featured Replies

Hi All,

first time posting so apologies if its bad etiquette to jump straight on and ask for advice!

Purchased a ford focus estate STLine 2019 model back in august/september time. A couple of months later the engine light came on, and a notification popped up which said "change oil soon". it had only just been serviced so i did check the oil levels and all seemed ok. Looking online suggested this was a service alert. I was told the service was due in january and was given a comp service as part of the purchase so, seeming as it was running fine and online suggested it was a service alert, thought id wait for the service to get it sorted. Booked it in with bristol street motors in jan who have now said that its actually an issue with the bank 2 sensor? and that to replace will cost 450-500 quid. I am trying to get this sorted with the warranty as the fault started within 3 years although the ford warranty guys are painful to deal with. However, as of today the light has now turned off and seems to be staying off.  I wanted to see if anyone here has had similar issue, and if the engine lights now gone away does that suggest the problem has now fixed itself?

The only thing i can think that has been different last 24 hours is that i reversed onto the drive (slight slope) rather than drove straight on, so the car was facing uphill that downhill for the day... which sounds ridiculous but wondering if it could have allowed something to drain properly??

anyways do you guys think ive dodged an expensive fix and been sent a lifeline during these expensive times?

thanks!

get on ebay and buy some dipetane

her focus drives like another car with a drop of that in there.... 3mpg up on the deal, reaching the highest ever instant figure on a cruise we ever saw and shorts dirty cats out (somehow)

They probably just forgot to reset the oil service timer when they changed the oil. You can easily do this yourself as shown in the following video. It's probably better to just reset it now and not worry that it'll reappear a couple of months late, rather than put up with the warning until it's next changed.

That's absolute nonsense, why would the oil service indicator appear in relation to a bad sensor issue, you'd expect just a DTC (trouble code) and maybe the MIL (malfunction indicator light) to show.

Either they're trying to completely screw you over with unnecessary work, or perhaps there's been some miscommunication. Perhaps they did find a DTC for the sensor when they plugged in their scan tool to look for issues, but managed to miscommunicate to you somehow that this caused the oil service warning rather than being a separate issue they've found? Perhaps whoever ended up reporting the finding to you was somehow under the mistaken impression that you'd reported a malfunction type warning popping up rather than oil service warning?

I presume "bank 2 sensor" refers to an O2 sensor which will be located on the exhaust. It might possibly be very difficult to get at, but yeah that's one big pile of money they want.

Perhaps you could take it to someone else to see what their scan tool picks up; see if they also find a need to replace this sensor and how much they'd charge in comparison.

You might even consider getting your own scan tool so you can keep an eye on trouble codes yourself. Don;t go for the cheap hand held devices, they're crap. OBDLink and VGate vLinker cables/dongles are popular and you can use them with the popular & free ForScan software on Windows. There are also cheaper ELM327 based ones available but I'd not recommend them. Be careful which model you get; not all models give access to all computer modules in Fords and not all are compatible with all devices. Just ask us if you need more advice.
