vibration at 70

Featured Replies

Hi all,

chasing a problem with the car- there is a vibration felt through the seat of your pants at roughly 65-75 mph. Theres no shake whatsoever through the steering wheel and the wheels were balanced recently when new tyres were fitted so its not balance. I've also replaced the fluid filled and rear engine mounts, unrelated but I know bad mounts can cause vibrations.

it comes and goes in waves and is most noticeable when holding a steady speed. its not RPM related either. There is also an audible knock when first decelerating at low speeds. 2nd gear or lower and just the one knock as the load changes. The idle is smooth and quiet so i'm thinking the DMF isn't totally shot yet.

My head is leaning towards inner CV joints. Am I on the right track? anyone had a similar problem?

cheers

Did you balance all 4 wheels? I had same vibn once and it was rear wheels out of balance.

I didn’t balance the rears. Think I’ll get them checked. It feels like it’s coming from the front in the engine area but cars do mysterious things to trick you.

It was when you wrote "vibration through the seat" that made me suspect rear wheel imbalance - that's exactly what I experienced. I suspect that if you were to sit in the back seat with somebody else driving your car, it would be even worse. Hope that does fix it.

you were right! had the rears balanced today and the death wobble is no more. Cheers mate
