Battery problems on early Ford Focus. 51 too 05 reg.

Featured Replies

Having problems with battery going flat, discharging.  I've checked the bulb in the boot.  How do I check BCM is turning off?  Any other suggestions as to why the battery is draining?  The battery was checked at the garage, that was OK.  Bunty.

Elsie is 02, 1600 litre, petrol.

How often and how quickly is your battery going flat ?

What voltage is the battery when measured at the terminals with a multimeter approx 1 hour after parking ?

I once had this problem caused by faulty alternator . The alternator worked when engine running. But when parked, the power in the battery leaked back through the alternator. The alternator contains a rectifier pack made from diodes. A diode is an electrical one way valve. It lets electricity out of the alternator and stops it leaking back the other way. Sometimes a diode fails and lets battery drain through the alternator.

The alternators were a bit dodgy on MK1s IIRC the lights used to flicker too.
