Heated Screen not working after replacement

Featured Replies

I had a cracked windscreen last year and autoglass replaced via insurance. Noticed the electric heated screen wasnt work and they agreed to reaplce the screen under warranty.

So now its been cold enough to actually test and still not working. Autoglass said when I picked the car up that the connections and fuses were checked so if doesn't work I would need to go to ford as there is nothing else they can do.

Original glass was working fine and heated electric screen would defrost quickly. Now I have to rely purely on blower. Has anyone come across this and is there anything I can check myself?

Its a 2017 Ford SMAX Titanium RHD

Forgot to mention the electric screen button comes on for a few mins before going out.

Found this thread,

looks like I need to carry out BMS reset and look at getting a trickle charger too

Don't reset the BMS unless you are replacing the battery!!!

The only thing this does is set the days in service to 0 and stops the car being able to charge properly on an aged battery, it will shorten the life of your car battery reseting the BMS without changing the battery.

The reason it can appear to "fix" things in the short term, is because the alternator will temporarily go back in to a dumb mode until it has figured out the SoC of your battery then you are back where you were.

Would trickle charging the battery help? I am planning on getting a new battery soon but not quite yet.

There are a few on amazon I am looking at

CTEK MXS 5.0 Battery Charger with Automatic Temperature Compensation, Black : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

NOCO GENIUS5UK, 5A Smart Car Charger, 6V and 12V Portable Heavy-Duty Battery Charger Maintainer, Trickle Charger and Desulfator Conditioner for AGM, Leisure, Lithium, Motorbike and Caravan Batteries : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive

Hmm... New battery is about £120 on tayna so probably better off getting new one rather than messing around with charging

Sounds like it may be the battery system, but one thing you can do, if you have access to a ohmmeter, and can access the screen connections, you can measure the resistance of the heated screen.  and whilst are at it, you can measure for 12V when it is switched on.

If you have unlimited funds and like spending, yeh, sure get one of those. However, there is a smart battery charger which is quite popular on this forum branded MayPole. Will do everything your expensive ones will do at a third of the price - available from above link, or from many other sources...

I'm sure @unofix or @tomfocus may know, they do the intelligent answers, I do the fluff...

As used on the Unofix Bike 👍

Very good news. It would be a good idea to put it back on charge in a few days time to try and build up the batteries SOC as it will most likely fall back some (which is normal).

Measure the battery voltage at the terminals about 1 hour after charging to get a realistic SOC reading.
