Hi. Just bought a 2019 focus 1.0 st line for my son and I think there’s an issue with the gearbox. 
 

when sat idling there’s a rattling noise coming from the gearbox area. When you press the clutch fully in, the noise goes away. 
 

also the gear stick seems quite sloppy when it’s in any gear there’s quite a bit of forwards and backwards free play. It goes into gear fine, but just seems really sloppy once in gear. 
 

could anybody help with any suggestions? The garage where we bought it from are saying it’s completely normal for this car.

It probably is completely normal for a cheapened Ford.

Doesn't mean it's right.

If they have a similar spec car, see if that does it too.

My 1.5 Ecoblue's gearbox used to rattle terrible and the aux belt used to squeak too.

Going by reviews b4 choosing the automatic, I saw there’s 2 different manual gearboxes on mk4s (not sure about ST though) but yours being an ST Line I think it’ll have the better of the two.. bit of useless knowledge there! Good luck 

Gearbox choice depends on engine rather than trim level.

In my experience, the B6 'boxes on Mk3&4 1.0 EcoBoost's don't feel as tight and smooth as the Mk2 Focus MTX75 did.  

 

All I can say is I have a 2020 Mk4 1.0l Titanium with a manual box and 40,000 miles on the clock.  When in gear (and indeed neutral) there is a minute amount of movement front to back (same amount in each gear - it feels quite taut as though it is designed to be there) and absolutely no movement left to right (which, if the latter was the case, would cause me to describe the gear lever as sloppy!)

When idling no rattling noise whatsoever.

I sometimes have a slight rattle when I start the car in neutral, when I put the clutch pedal down the noise goes away, something to do with the clutch plate rather than the gearbox, I'm not concerned about it though, it's very quiet.

Thanks guys. They didn’t have another focus 1.0. But had a fiesta in with the same gb. 6mx65 and that felt solid. Think it’s time to write a letter of complaint in and see what comes off it.

His profile is probably correct for his car, he's referring to a problem with his son's car.

a váltókar is elég hanyagnak tűnik, ha bármilyen fokozatban van, elég kevés az előre-hátra szabad játék. Jól megy a sebességbe, de sebességbe kapcsolva nagyon hanyagnak tűnik. 
 

tudna valaki segíteni valami javaslattal? A garázs, ahol vásároltuk, azt mondják, hogy ez teljesen normális az autónál.
