Focus ST Line X 2023 ford app and sync 4 no connectivity

Featured Replies

I’ve had a Focus ST Line X MK4.5 for a week now, everything has been great up until the weekend when the Ford Pass App stopped communicating with my car.

I have reset the App on my phone as suggested; removed my car and logged out etc. I am able to add the car back to the app but now I can’t activate it as I never see the prompt appear on my Sync 4 system in order to activate it and it just times out in the app.

Another suggestion has been to go into Settings - Connectivity - Connectivity settings on Sync 4 and toggle this on and off, but connectivity settings never brings anything up. It says please wait and then just returns to the connections menu again. And then I get a pop up saying settings not available. Screen shot attached. The ESN number is still visible in the menu so the modem Is identified. In the Bezel diag screen the TCU shows as disconnected.

What is really confusing me is that I can’t even perform a master reset of Sync. The options to reset Ford connect or reset sync 4 are greyed out - so I can’t even do that step.

Obviously it’s still under warranty and such, so I have linked in with my dealership - but I was wondering if anyone has had similar and if there is anything I could check? I’m assuming it’s the TCU unit or similar at fault here and needs a software update?

does anyone else have or had the same issue and how was it resolved?IMG_4965.thumb.jpeg.d95386858e3ea25cd1726505a204499e.jpeg

Hi,

I started to face the exact same issue with my Focus mk4.5.

Have you resolved it?

My advice would be to ensure the car is connected to your home Wi-Fi, to allow for the updates to download and install quicker.

The updates will auto install (ensure this is enabled too) when the battery has a decent enough charge and when the car isn't in use. Be sure to set your preferred install schedule in the update settings.

Once updated, it should resolve those issues you mention. Mine did the same thing but its had 3/4 updates since and it connects first time without fail and connects a lot quicker than it used to.

There is no way to force the updates or to download them and install them manually on any Sync 4 system. Its all control Over The Air (OTA).
