How many jobs have you had since leaving school.

Featured Replies

I'm on job number 9 in 43 years. Wondered if that normal or not?

We were talking about jobs at work today and quite a few have jumped from job to job every couple of years.  I was also amazed at how many job vacancies there are in my trade.

Job 3, 8 years

9 x different companies

12 x different jobs

40+ years

3 in 33 years

3 in 50yrs,  redundant each time.

  • 7 different jobs
  • 8 companies
  • 30 years

TBF i changed jobs every 2-3 years when working, got bored. Till i got with a company and went from shopfloor to management and trade sales over the course of 9 years. Poor health forced me to retire early.

Sorry, yes, I meant from age

2nd job in 16 years, but I've been at the same place for the last 13.

My first job was only a paid summer placement while I was at uni. It had scope to become a permanent job, I was even started on the final salary pension (pre 2008 financial crisis!), but it was working for the council and it just wasn't for me. Changed careers completely after that!

When I saw the first line I thought 'Wow, 18 years making pallets without any career progression!?'.

Well it's a difficult skill. Starting off with hammer & nails, then eventually progressing to a nail gun, all takes time Tom, all takes time...

To be fair you would have to be thick as 2 short planks to make pallets for 18 years.

now come on all the boards have to be the same length as with the corner blocks 🤣

Only had 5 jobs since leaving school, I'm 58 now.....

Left school and worked in a crab processing factory for a couple of years.

Moved to Aberdeen and worked in a pub for 4 years.

Moved back home and worked in a haulage company for about 5 years, left after it was taken over for about the third time.

Moved to a beer and grocery wholesalers for 14 years.

Currently working with our local council for 16 years, can't see me shifting before retirement, so only 9 years to go! 😃

My wife, on the other hand, reckons she's had over 25 jobs!  😲

I've shifted houses more than I've moved jobs..... but that's another thread 😃

I've worked since leaving school.  Labourer at 16, Got a van job at 17 then progressed onto Trucks at 21.  Had 10 employers, all on driving.  I'm 50 now, fed up with it but what do you do instead?

How old am I.

True story…….……

……..I once changed jobs in order to earn more money……………

……the job I went to was paying £1 an hour, so before that I was earning pence per hour.

Don't talk to me about the minimum wage.

And no, while I am knocking on a bit I am not 10,000 years old.

Petrol 70p a gallon, those were the days.

Job wise, 10 in 46 years.

The only thing is, I didn’t sit down for very long 😂😂🍀
