I was googling as you do and came across some threads where fake accounts were created and the new member posted content that

answered simple questions and then created threads asking their own. All seemingly related to the forum in question.

I spotted a thread from here (things i dont like) where someone posted why do they do that.  It seems these members

contact other forum members who are buying or selling items and sending private messages to contact them via email or other

messenger services and offer to buy or sell which is where the scams comes into play.

Hopefully this works and is allowed

Searching the username i found tons of forums where they joined within a few days and had different cars from Vauxhalls, Fords, BMW's

and always posted an answer to someones issue first and then asked several of their own.  Just bought a car relevant to that forum

and always a different car but the same pattern.  More sophisticated than the usual scams out there.

Apologies if this is common knowledge already but thought it was better to post and have it removed than not post at all.

Thanks for the heads-up on this scam and have seen a few others like it in the USA.

Reading the post link (Model T Club in the USA) the OP states that he used PayPal 'Friends and Family' method of payment which does not have any financial cover for fraudulent transactions. Lesson learnt the hard way I think.

Always pays to be vigilant and we always try (with the help of the Mods and Members) to eradicate the spammers as soon as possible if they do get through the firewalls.

I googled the username and found they had joined a lot of forums, many car related but also fishing and oddly shaving?

Guess there is money to be made on shaving items?

Probably new names now but likely doing the same scams.  The fact they interact on the forums before contacting people

makes them appear more legit.
