First MOT Date

Featured Replies

Simple question but one I can't find an answer to...

Does the 'one monthly early' still apply to a cars first MOT to give you almost 13 months MOT from the date of the test?

Or will the first MOT set the renewal date for exactly 12 months later?

Thanks

Yes, afaik the first MOT is due not later than 3 years from registration, but (like subsequent MOTs)  can be done up to 1 month (less 1 day) earlier. My last cars (reg 1 March) first MOT was done mid February for convenience, but still expired 28 Feb the following year.

And if you are late for the first one it is not backdated.

I was a few days late for my first one and the expiry is 12months from the date it was done, not from the first registration.

Thanks for the confirmation.

If I calculate correctly, I can get it done while still covered by manufacturers warranty, and used sales warranty, while still preserving the original date.
