Focus Mk 3.5 left tail indicator faulty

Featured Replies

Hello,

Looking for advice on this issue before taking it to a garage. Recently the left tail indicator has stopped working completely. This has happened a couple of times leading up to it and 'fixing' itself within a few minutes. I've spent today troubleshooting it and replacing the bulb and want to see if theres anything more I can do.

  • All surrounding lights in the tail unit work - reversing, led strip, brakes.
  • I've replaced the bulb with 2 I bought today, and swapped with the right tail indicator.
  • Had a glance at the fuse boxes in the boot and under the glovebox. Nothing seems off, but I don't know what fuse would be responsible.
  • The left side and front indicator lights work.
  • Bulb contact with the socket seems alright, same with the wiring on the tail unit and leading up to it.
  • I suppose that if a fuse had blown, that I wouldn't have had the blips leading up to it. Only thing I can think of now is faulty wiring somewhere I can't see.

The ground tab in the lamp holder is not protruding far enough out and is not making contact with the side of the bulb.

It just needs eased out a few millimeters with a small screwdriver.

Thank you! I hadn't thought about that. I'll give this a go tomorrow morning and confirm if it works.

Done this and can confirm lights are working now! When bending the connector, it split in half so I took the broken fragment, bent it into an "^" and wedged it in. So should be more secure now.

Pleased it was a simple fix for you. 👍
