Ford fiesta 2013 1.0T low oil pressure

Featured Replies

Hi, I just need some advice on this. I bought this used car privately not even a month ago for £4000. Turned it on yesterday and it came up with the message on the dash “engine oil pressure low, stop safely/slowly” there aren’t any warning lights on the dash that stay on, just this message. Should I keep driving it? I’m only going short distances to and from school. And I’m trying to see what’s the issue by spending least money as possible xD. It may be the wet belt, or the filter is clogged. Has anyone else gone through this issue? Thanks alot

Don't keep driving it. If the engine isn't already totalled, continuing to drive it could finish it off.

Daily posts on here about the same thing unfortunately. Just have a search.

Has the wet belt been changed yet? It's due this year.

Not really, but in all honesty your engine is probably already scrap.

If you paid £4000 for the car then sadly it will cost almost as much to replace the engine. The best you can do to cut your loses is to sell it now as 'spares or repair' and you might get £1000 for it.

My heart goes out to you, as if you are driving to school this is probably your first (dream) car and it might be a nightmare.

Don't drive it - find a trusted garage who know about the Ford 1.0T - pay them for an investigation.

ETA by this I do NOT mean a Ford garage; they would do minimum work, charge you maximum £££s, and say 'you need a new engine'.  Find a proper garage/mechanic instead.

Chin up - life can be a *****; it's how you deal with the bad stuff that makes the difference.

I don't think you should tar all Ford garages with the same brush. I have used the same one for both company and private cars for more than 45 years now and they are very good at trying to minimise your cost and offering pattern parts if you want them. I think it all depends upon the ethos of the individual business, which of course can vary a lot.

...sure... but on balance of probabilities (and the relationship you have and the amount of money you have spent there), I would bet that the OP won't be so lucky.

Good points both. I've dealt with my local Ford place for nearly 20 years and been very happy with the service. It's still a family owned business which often makes a difference.

Plenty of experience of the other type though, of varying franchises and usually part of a big chain - though some big group dealerships are also very good, a lot seems depends on the dealer principal and how much autonomy he has.

What we need though is a recommendation for a trustworthy outfit somewhere near the OP. Unfortunately there don't seem to be many 1.0 ecoboost specialists around, these guys seem to get a lot of mentions but not exactly near Kent:

https://northwestengines.co.uk/ecoboost-specialists

might be worth a contact to see if they work with anyone local, though?

I think Unofix has spelled out the worst case financial scenario, the usual cheapest new engine we can find is:

https://pumaspeed.co.uk/product-Brand-new-Ford-Service-10-Ecoboost-Engine_18898.jsp

and I've seen mentions of:

I'd not come across them before. Looks like a good alternative to the PumaSpeed option. Just need to take in to account the VAT as one company is 'Plus VAT' and the other is inclusive of VAT.

Either way it's around £3K for a new engine supplied and fitted which is a lot of money to anyone.

it occurs to me that If this had been a dealership purchase we'd have been advising the OP to take matters up with them. Unfortunately with a private purchase most of the consumer rights legislation doesn't apply.

However, the vehicle must have been accurately described and not misrepresented e.g. not called "one owner" when it isn't, or having "full service history" when it doesn't, etc. So there may be some comeback depending on what was said. Unfortunately it may be a matter of court proceedings.

Another point, is a small time dealer masquerading as a private seller to circumvent consumer rights. I've come across this personally in the past, but fortunately "smelled a rat" and reported it to trading standards.

Seller could just claim they’d never seen the warning when they owned it. Quite possible they hadn’t and no consumer protection for burden of proof or time scales.

Well Bailey @Boo42333 whats your thoughts on the matter ? 🤔

We can see you keep checking back to read the answers so it would be good to hear your plans.

I remembered that Mark ( @AUDIdoTHAT ) in this thread mentioned a "trusted mechanic" presumably in Essex area and wonder if he could recommend anyone:

Hi guys,  I just bought a brand new engine from fords, they originally wanted £2400 which varied from different dealers and parts places,  but with a bit of shopping around, we found it for around £2000 from fords, But then with some more digging....   some of the dealers were letting you buy it if you knew somebody with a ford ticket/ford employee, and that got you the employees discount if they came with you when you paid for it.

This is what i did, and got a brand new engine costing me £1500 total from fords

A trusted mechanic we know is fitting it over the next few days at a cost of £300

ive done a few upgrades also, as in upgrading the coolant hoses mentioned on here, and also putting a new clutch kit in it,

so the total will be around £2000 fitted. This was the cheapest (brand new engine) route i found

And when you consider you'd have to pay half that just to get the timing belt changed it's not a bad route to take really as you don't just get a new belt but a whole new engine!

Thanks for all the responses! Luckily I got friends whose parents are mechanics so I might give it to them. They said they will strip it and rebuild it and fix everything for around 1.5k so might go for that. Bought the car on eBay and it said 3 months warrenty. Seller swears blind that it was a mistake but he said he might help with the cost of it so that’s good I guess? Idk my last car was a Mitsubishi mirage and I love this fiesta jsut hope I can get it fixed soon!

Can you get the original listing up, where it says 3 months warranty ?

Im pretty sure hes entered into a legally binding contract through ebay. Id get the listing back up, screen shot the page where it says about the warranty, and you have him by the dangly bits imo

do you have the original listing item number etc ? It should show u it

Yea Dw it’s all good I have it, it said “3 months warrenty” no indication about buying it or anything. When I picked it up he didn’t say anything about it. I haven’t even had the car a month. He has another car up there that says “3 months warrenty (extendable)” so it’s clearly not a mistake. So hopefully he can do something about it if he is decent about it

Just as a back up id screen shot all his listings, so you clearly see the warranty thing on all his listings which as you say shows its no mistake, and if his not forth coming in helping you out, Then hit him with it,  Best of luck mate

With him selling multiple cars is he a dealer? If so the Consumer Rights Act gives you extra protection, including an obligation on the seller to prove that a fault that occurs within six months wasn't present at the time of sale otherwise a repair/refund is due. Worth looking into further detail though, particularly the nuances of whether ebay is considered an auction in which case this particular statutory right may not apply.

Sounding pretty much as suspected in my earlier post, then.

He has one fiat 500 on there and then an Audi. When we went to get it he made it seem like he was selling it for his wife. I might just go for the 1.5k thing. As then my car hopefully will have evethibg done to last me another 100k miles. Bonus my dad said he will pay for a remap after i get it sorted. Thanks for everyone’s help!
