Any thoughts on why this message pop ups now and again, have had no other battery warnings and all seems ok, think no lights are staying on overnight ( glove box , etc)that may cause a rundown.

My Ecosport is a Nov 2019 model .

Battery charge is low.

Just the age of the battery mostly, but it may improve for a while after longer trips.

Oh gawd Alex, you would think modern batteries would not give probs after 3.5 years, should i not also be getting a battery symbol warning on the instrument cluster if its run down?

Thanks for the good info👍🏻

No the battery icon means you are running on battery power because the alternator is not providing power, nothing to do with the state of the battery.

You don't get any explicit warnings about batteries aging, only little things indications like this becoming more frequent, even after a run, then one day it will just fail to start.

Thanks again Alex,

Lots of threads on this subject in various models. It even popped up in my new Fiesta the day I collected it, while I was sat with the ignition on adjusting various settings to my liking.

Typical thread (with links to others) here:

Measure the battery voltage approx 1 hour after it has been parked and see what the State Of Charge is.

Thst screenshot was helpful, had a rellie check the battery with a meter, seems plenty of charge going but its not holding it, from your chart its only holding 20% 🫣

So its a new one i guess, which model/ number do Ford use on it, as cannot see it on the battery as its covered mainly, save me taking it out 🤔

It's probably got an EFB 100 fitted. Post a picture so we can check.

I'm not sure if the Ecosport will take a bigger battery. Usually the diesels have slightly bigger batteries, but different Fords accomodate the increased size differently.

The MK4 Focus can take a taller 096, things like Kuga will take a longer 110 instead. Not sure on the Ecosport.

Because of course the label is completely covered. I was hoping at least some of it would be showing 😅

Other than the message, are you having any other issues?

I'm not 100% ruling out the need for a new battery, but as early as the 2 year service of my previous Fiesta the Ford e-check showed 11.96v or 25% SOC according to them.

I thought this odd and checked the reading myself and found it correct. At this point I started researching the subject and found, through this and other forums, that modern "intelligent" car charging systems rarely fully charge the battery unless your pattern of use happens to coincide with the system requirements.

Those of us with irregular usage patterns and/or low mileage have a particular problem. So the answer seemed to be to go back to giving the car a regular top up with a charger as necessary. The old one that many of us have lurking in the garage is not compatible with modern systems so you need a "smart" charger. Brands recommended by members on here include C-tek, Noco and Maypole.

It certainly worked for me, and I had no issues during the rest of my 5 year ownership, despite the various lockdowns etc. I will be monitoring my new Fiesta carefully and using the charger if necessary.

This is not an exclusively Ford issue, other makes forums are full of similar stories.  Have a good look at the other threads I linked to earlier and possibly search further using your favourite search engine before coming to a decision on a new battery.

Stephen's definitely the Maypole expert here! But afaik only the first of those two is "smart" which is what you need.

Fwiw I have a Noco and a C-tek and have been satisfied with both - but as you have probably found they are more expensive!

I find some car seats are particularly prone to causing that... :whistling1:

On a more serious note...I've plugged the Maypole into my 'other' car this morning, using the powerbank as no mains available for it.

Original battery getting on for 3 years old (EFB+).  Sat in a used vehicle compound for nearly 6 months.  And has just been idled occasionally in my carpark for the last 6 weeks.  Maypole showing 12.4/12.5v.  Genuinely surprised at that.  Didn't bother taking the multimeter down first as I just assumed it'd be low given the above circumstances.
