Issues with FCDIM module after updating to sat nav version

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently updated the Sony head unit in my 2011 focus to the sat nav version and it all works ok apart from the satnav. It shows the following error in Forscan -

===END FCDIM DTC B119F:13-2F===

===FCDIM DTC U2101:00-2F===
Code: U2101 - Control Module Configuration Incompatible

I understand I need to change the AS-BUILT  programming to fix this and have been advised to find a VIN for a car with the spec I need. I'm really struggling to do this. It seems easy enough to find the data from a VIN but not a VIN from a spec. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this?

Thanks Phil.

I usually just find a car on auto trader with the spec then put that reg in to one of Fords systems that will give you the VIN.

Thanks for the tip never thought of it like that lol, seems I was over thinking it.

I've found a registration but I cant find anywhere to get the VIN from it, can you suggest a site to try please?

The U2101:00-2F DTC code is not a problem.

DTC U2101:00-2F just means that the initial configuration is not completed. The SD-card with maps contains a software update file. Once the SD-card is installed the FCDIM is updated to the required software version.

The software update introduces new configuration parameters. Since these configuration parameters are not present in the original AS-BUILT configuration of the car they are left empty. The empty configuration causes the DTC U2101:00-2F. This however does not affect the functionality of the FCDIM in any way.

The U2101:00-2F DTC code can be removed by manually changing the empty parameters to Zero's.

Thanks for that info. I'm also getting the error code below regarding the antenna I bought to go with this head unit -

===FCDIM DTC B119F:13-2F===
Code: B119F - GPS Antenna

Additional Fault Symptom (:13):
 - Circuit Open

I'm being told that this fault will go away when I clear the fault code- "Code: U2101 - Control Module Configuration Incompatible"  which is why i was more focused on resolving that fault, but the head unit all works fine including the nav. Maps come up and I can plan a route, it all works as you'd expect but simply states no GPS available. My suspicion is that the antenna isn't working but it they aren't cheap and I done want to buy another till I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the one I have already bought. I've checked the connections and all is ok, no sign of water ingress, corrosion or any of that.

I'm really struggling with this problem now. Unfortunately JW1982's response regarding the empty parameters doesn't appear to relate to anything I see when using forscan, I cant find any empty parameters to add the zeros too. The data displayed is 7A5-01-01-00AE, I'm probably missing the point somewhere but I cant find anything more that or any blank parameters.

I've been told to obtain as built data for a car with the head unit spec I've got in mine, I've done this and the data is the same as what I already have, ie 7A5-01-01-00AE. As I stated in a previous post it all works fine which does make sense to what JW1982 said about the fault not effecting the operation of the FCDIM, only issue is the NO GPS message and the fact I cant plan routes despite everything seeming to work fine with the satnav.

The only other DTC that I have on the FCDIM is the open circuit DTC on the GPS listed above, you would reasonably expect that would indicate a faulty antenna but the advice I'm receiving from the source of the antenna is that it is because the unit isn't programmed properly. I would simply buy another antenna if they weren't so expensive with no guarantee that the next one I get wont be faulty either or that it actually is just an issue with the programming.

If anyone can offer any advice its much appreciated.

From experience I can say that the U2101:00-2F DTC code is stored in most of these FCDIM modules.

I still have 3 different versions of the 5 Inch Full Color FCDIM laying arround and all of these have this DTC code. All of them are functioning fine despite the DTC code.

Yes I agree it doesn't seem to be a problem, the unit all functions normally apart from the GPS signal. That in conjunction with the open signal DTC really has to point to a faulty antenna, so I think I just have to take it on the chin a roll the dice on another antenna.

Thanks for coming back to me and offering your input.

Did you had any luck with this error code after replacing antenna?
