Your daughters car is 15 years old, back then BluTooth was a luxury and expensive, so it needed option equipment to work, As you say, microphone/BT module etc wasn't 'standard'. Even if fitted, it didn't stream music, only speech. If you are swapping the whole head unit, as long as it has BT built in, and you fit a microphone, no reason why it won't work.

I fitted an ariel splitter in mine to give me bluetooth option and the head unit i put in came with mic etc

Now, do you mean DAB, instead of BT? Wasn't aware that BT needed an aerial? I get DAB but added a simple converter plugged into the original head unit AUX unit, with a MagMount aerial...

note to self wake up fully before posting

My 08 Focus came with Bluetooth & voice control.  Was standard on the Titanium as far as I know.  The microphone is in the roof console.

The radio doesn't need to be the DAB version, basic Sony version will work as long as you add the Bluetooth module.

Yes, but in light grey.  The black is for ST's.
