2.3 petrol 2004 Transit engine cutting out

Featured Replies

Hi, so when the engine is idle, everything is fine, and the van sits at 900-1000rpm.

But when I turn the A/C on, the idle goes very rough and the limiter bounces down to 100/200rpm and then cuts out. It’s fine when driving, I just need to disable it when I come to a stop.

The other problem is that when I’m parking up in a parking lot, the engine dies when the steering is in full lock. I can counteract this with applying the gas a little more, but if I was to dry steer without any gas applied, the idle drops below 900 and dies.

Another problem I have noticed is that when driving, and say I’m coming up to some traffic lights, slowing down with the gears, I’ll drop the clutch and then the rpm will stay around 2000, for around 3 seconds and then drop back down to 900-1000.

Could this all be the same problem coming from one fault or is there anything I should try/replace to solve the issue?

Many thanks!

We’re currently on our travels in Australia and any issues we have require parts direct from a ford garage which will take days, unlike back in the UK where we can get them next day.
