1.0 ecoboost snapped belt

Hi all,

Not my car but my friend who is a driving instructor, belt went on it the other day during a lesson. He was just about to book it in for the belt to be changed as the car is on 140,000 miles. Car is 2014, 14 plate.

He's been told it's easier to get a replacement engine, I haven't seen it yet but would tend to agree as these are interference engines, right? His mechanic is going to source a used engine from his supplier so waiting the hear back from that.

Just so we at least do our own checks, does anyone know of a good engine supplier? I did find a new one from Pumaspeed but I guess that will just be the basic engine and no ancillaries.

Thanks.

Thanks. He's been quoted £2900 by a local garage for a 2nd hand engine with 40K miles on it, but waiting to hear back as to how old it is.

I'm not sure why he would want to pay that for a second hand engine that could suffer the exact same failure six months down the line.

PumaSpeed will supply and fit a brand new engine with a warranty for £3040 inc VAT

They are genuine brand new Ford engines.  Just bought in bulk to get a lower price than buying from Ford dealerships individually.

Just to upadte this thread.

Friend had an engine (40k miles) from a 2016 car fitted, had the timing belt etc changed and clutch replaced too. I haven't asked how much it cost him but I imagine it would be over £3500.

One thing I learned a long time ago is that vehicle breakers always have low miles engines and no high miles ones lol. I would take the new engine route every time at the price mentioned above especially if the vehicle was a work tool.
