Fiesta 1.6Tdci P2122 Fault Code - Please Help!

Featured Replies

Right Lads, the Fiesta saga continues!

I have been getting a persistent P2122 malfunction code on my young lads Fiesta, Code P2122 is Throttle/Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor low voltage in the circuit

1. Replaced the Accelerator Pedal Sensor with a brand new genuine one - Malfunction light & P2122 code came back on again

2. Replaced the Throttle body and sensor (again new and genuine) reset the Throttle Intake data and reset the PCM - Light & Code are back on again.

What could it possibly be this time??

All the wiring looks good, no obvious breaks or shorts, what is my next move?

Thanks

Finn

Did you do the re-calibration procedure after replacing these parts ?

Dave @DaveT70 might be able to advise

Yes, reset the throttle valve learned values and reset the PCM, no difference.....

Just double check the wiring in case there's a break, replacing the parts should've fixed it

Hi Dave, thanks for commenting, I'm still scratching my head as to why its happening. The wiring all appears fine I have tried the original pedal, a working second hand pedal and a new pedal and I'm still getting the same P2122 error.

What is the "learning procedure" when you change the throttle sensor? Are they self learning? Forscan doesn't have a service procedure for the accelerator pedal. I was going to try reset the PCM to see if that will do anything, what do you think?

Throttle learning procedure:

Turn on car and turn off ALL accessories, including A/C, then fan, then radio etc, turn off car

Disconnect battery negative, cover pole on battery to prevent contact

Disconnect positive cable

touch positive and negative cables together and hold for five minutes, if they don't reach run a jump lead between them, MAKE SURE they cannot touch the battery poles

Reconnect positive cable

reconnect negative cable

turn on ignition but DO NOT start engine MAKE sure all accessories are still turned off

Connect FORScan and clear DTCs

DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE PEDAL

Start the engine DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE PEDAL no matter how long it takes to start DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE PEDAL

leave engine to idle until it reaches full operating temperature DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE PEDAL

DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE PEDAL and turn on A/C and heater fan

leave for a further minute.

If that doesn't work, check wiring for continuity

Swapped the throttle pedal again and reset the PCM.

Just watched the live data on FORScan and I'm not getting any voltage reading for App1 or App2, throttle position is all fine and reacting to the pedal, a break in 1 wire is possible but 2 is highly unlikely?? Also how is the car still running fine?

Should I now be looking at the PCM or what is going on?

Did you get to the bottom of this? I’ve found a bad 6 pin plug on the throttle body was causing a very similar code. I was getting p0222:14 throttle pedal position sensor circuit b low. Where there should have been 4.8v-5.2v supply it was only measuring 3.71v. That’s what this one was moaning about. When I looked at the plug I could see someone had been playing the hokey pokey with multimeter probes which had forced all the female connector pins wide open. When I did a pin drag test the connection was so bad that the pins fell out when I turned it upside down lol.
