Flat battery

Featured Replies

Hi all, my battery is totaly flat ( never used van for a month or so)

It's that flat the central locking won't work  or even the key won't unlock it in the door.

Is there any way I can get in to get at the battery behind the seat.

It's a 62 plate Mk7 Diesel  thanks

Try again with the key blade in the door lock.  That should work without power, but will be stiff if it's never been used.

Still won't work

Hmm, don't know why that won't work.

If you have home start on breakdown cover it might be worth getting them out.

Only other options are to reach up underneath with a jump pack and clip the positive onto the thick alternator cable and the negative onto any strong piece of metal.  That should energise the whole van so you can use the remote to unlock.  Obviously there are risks to both the van and yourself trying that.

Or you can break the window to get into the cab, but I really wouldn't do that unless you have absolutely no other option.

Probably easier to reach the main positive cable on the starter solenoid as it's lower down.

A less riskier option is to connect a battery charger between the positive of the starter solenoid and a good earth point. Leave it to charge the battery for a couple of hours and then there should be enough power to use the remote central locking.

I've just realised this age of Transit probably still uses the key-blade bonnet lock.

So that should be openable without any power.  That'll be the easiest option if so.

Open the bonnet and use the positive terminal behind a cover and the engine lift hook as earth.

Even the new transit use the same blade bonnet lock

Only the custom went to handle inside to open bonnet a few years ago.

Thanks Ian.  I had a closer look at a neighbours Transit after posting that and realised the Mk8's still used the blade lock.  There is a Custom here as well, so I'll blame that for the confusion lol.

Haven't seen any complaints about them on here so guess they're a bit more robust than the Mk2 Focus version?

Thinking about it now, the OP might have had a pre-built bonnet lock replacement, which would explain why their door barrel doesn't work.

Transit ones are robust enough. It was the customs that used to fall apart/ fail to open and had to access from underneath to remove the lock was a right pain and  Long arms were helpfull.

So glad I don't do any of that crap any more.
