is the 1.25 16v zetec easy on fuel?

is the 1.25 16v zetec easy on fuel?

yeah im in my car everyday and go to work in it in it and just drive around for the fun of it and 20 quid lasts me 2 weeks usually give or take couple days.

my dads bmw goes through triple that and hes in it half as much as me.

That is good. i used £20 yesterday doing 100 mile. That was a total of about 2 hours driving. Mind 130 does drink a little lol.

On a private road of course.

I have a 1.25 zetec s, and i drove my mates 1.3 and mine is much faster, now my mate wants to buy my car

A quick check would be looking on parkers guide or something similar to mpg, 0-60 and top speed. This will give you a rough guide.

Although if i'm honest your not going to get alot more noticeable power and it isnt worth the hassle of changing, you may as well go for something bigger when you can.

Alright shade,

The 1.25 is a zetec engine its faster than the 1.3, the 1.3 engine was carried over from the old MK3 fiesta , the 1.25 was a new engine for the MK4 so its newer as well, The 1.25 turns out 75BHP where the 1.3 only turns out about 60, i can't imagine the fuel consumption is that different.

I'll soon be driving as im 17 and taking the test in the very near future, the Fiesta Zetec S engine is much more 'nippier' than the encore engine, even though somehow my first car is an Encore model, it has a Zetec S 1.25 16v engine and goes like a beast.

1.25 everytime!

My first car was a mk5 1.25 16v zetec s engine. Rapid for a small engine, revs well too. It was quicker than the mk6.5 1.25 ive got now :(

The 1.25 is a great engine, especially in the Mk4 and Mk5 and miles better than the 1.3. Downside is mainly the cost of buying the car and that the insurance group (and so insurance cost) is higher.

If you can afford the 1.25 over a 1.3, then do it.

What you must remember is the Fiesta is a LOT lighter than the Escort so it will struggle a little pulling the extra weight

i have the 1.25 zetec but i am a trained mechanic. The zetec is quicker but drinks more fuel at high speeds but is alot eaiser to "play with" modifiy but the 1.3 is the efectivly the same engines from the oringial fiesta just slighty diffrent like a injection rail and a cat fitted. i was suggested to fit the 1.3 in my zetec and chip remap it, fit a iduction kit and change the exhaust. but i dont know how true it is.

Never had either engine but the guides all say 1.25 better than old 1.3

Most bigger more powerful engines don't usually use more fuel as they are mor on top of the job, you don't have to rev them as hard for the same effect , unless you are going over 2.0litres

That's my experience

I got told the same thing while in NZ, people kept saying get a 3.0L V8 Holden or Ford as the engine is so powerful it never works hard to do the usual treks and therefore gets great fuel economy...so I was told anyway.

1.25 is the way to go, its probably the fastest engine out there in its category (1.2 - 1.3) pushing 75bhp a mate of mines punto has the exact same cc but only gives 59 which is 1 less than my other mates 1.0 polo! Corsas are only in the mid 60's, its the 16v which give it the extra oomf plus some other stuff :) so hope to see your zetec soon ;D

Just to add I had a 56 plate Nissan Micra with a 1.2 16 valve 79hp engine.

Although I think it was 1256cc.

So I don,t agree with Fiesta 1.25 being better.

That engine had from new to almost 100,000mls on it when sold and was a superb powerfull performer and did not use any oil between services.

Now why sell then? Suppose we were ready for a change and it was not the most comfortable on rougher surfaced roads.

Anyhow that's my experience of a small engined car.

Cheers
