cost cut but how much do they save

Don't know what car you had before, Keith, but they cut an awful lot more from the final Fiestas than the paper handbook - have a look at the posts on this thread from page 4 onwards:

I could not find out how to get into my car if the key fob did not work where as someone else did.

Ah, but I've had plenty of practice!😀

You can't drive it in the winter either.  The heated screens and aux heater won't work with low voltage.

Really?

Interesting reading this thread. We have a 2023 Fiesta Hybrid. The aircon has rarely worked since we’ve had it. The dealer has been useless and keeps reverting back to “the battery isn’t charged enough”.
This is despite the stop/start constantly working and the alternator “isn’t powerful enough to fully charge the battery” even on a 200mile summer trip.

The clutch doesn’t engage, just about to try charging it again!

How do you reset the BMS? Is it possible without specialist Ford kit?

Crap system all round really.

The alternator is of adequate power, but Ford programme the charging system to only charge the battery to a maximum of 80% no matter what !!!

The battery mostly gets charged on the engine over run, not while you are driving at a constant speed, so as I very often say "you could drive to the Moon and back and you will still not have fully charged the battery"

No special tools required to reset the BMS. However, it should only ever be reset when a brand new freshly fully charged battery has been installed.

Just to amplify that, historically I've tended to avoid doing short runs on the grounds of it's bad for the car, fuel consumption, etc, but again have found longer runs (particularly at steady speed) don't hit the spot battery charging wise.

Consequently I've had many of the low battery issues, particularly start/stop not working, but also interior lights and various unexplained "weirdness", over 7 years with 2 Mk 8/8.5 Fiestas.

Over the last six months or so circumstances have meant doing the sort of runs I've always tried to avoid - short journeys, stop/go traffic, etc, and everything currently seems to work!
